They find no real time for themselves, while room and board gets deducted from their meager pay, leaving little to send back to their parents in Vermont. This is a time in American history that many tend to ignore or perhaps hope to forget. But its a chapter in our history thats here to stay. Its a story of unsung heroes, some who gave their life. This was the start of civil rights and the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happinessso long forbidden for those in servitude.
